September 29, 2022

This past weekend I was glued to the news and people’s Facebook feeds as Fiona hit the east coast of Canada. The devastation hit close to home for me, as I grew up in Newfoundland and Labrador, have family there, and I know people in Port aux Basques, where 20 homes were destroyed, and one person perished due to Fiona.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday this week, the heavy rains in Guatemala caused a massive sinkhole to open on a major road killing several people as the road collapsed. As a result, our partners there need to drive an extra two hours each day to get to the inclusive preschool.

And across the ocean in Ethiopia, they’re experiencing the opposite of wind and rain, with the drought continuing to take its toll on the people in that country.

This week, on Friday, is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day honours the children who never returned home and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. We commemorate the tragic history and ongoing impacts of the residential schools. Today, I am honoured to host two Listening Sessions with people from within Christian Horizons.

Below, you’ll find the various statistics for this week.

Sincerely,
Dwayne
