As we continue to see surges in the cases of COVID-19 in some communities, in Ontario we’re also preparing to change our clocks this weekend. Saskatchewan doesn’t participate in Daylight Savings Time, so the change this weekend means the time difference goes to one hour, rather than two hours, which is it now. This week I heard a joke that people don’t intend to move the time back because they don’t want to add one more hour to 2020. That seems about right!

Last week, I mentioned a person who was in contact with someone with COVID-19 at their eye appointment. Thankfully, they tested negative!

As of yesterday, Christian Horizons has thirteen (13) people using our services and twelve (12) employees who are currently positive for COVID-19 in seven (7) Ontario communities. We have no active cases in Saskatchewan. Thankfully, at this point, most of those who have tested positive have gotten through the worst of their symptoms. We pray for their continued improvement, and that they recover fully and quickly.

Christian Horizons Global

This week, we were reminded that 2020 marks our 30th year working globally. Thirty years ago, a few Christian Horizons leaders started the international work in Guatemala and Ethiopia, under the name Children’s Homes International, which later became Christian Horizons Global. Some of our overseas staff have been with us throughout this entire time. We are grateful to those local leaders for their lifetime commitment and for continuing to serve during this challenging time. As cases of COVID-19 continue to rise globally, we must always remember that it is the whole world that is impacted by this pandemic. Please continue to keep our teams in your thoughts and prayers.

Redeployment

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to be redeployed and help in another community. Right now, a team of redeployed staff are working at the outbreak site in Peel, helping people be supported well while their support staff are in isolation. I’m praying for continued and ongoing good health for all of us, and I’m grateful that some people are able to step in and help in times like this. Dave Petkau is still leading this effort and can be reached at dpetkau@christian-horizons.org or 226-339-4579.

Thank you for your ongoing diligence. Please continue to practice physical distancing, wear our masks, wash our hands, use the COVID-19 app, and consider getting a flu shot!

Remember, our resources page is updated regularly and available at https://covid19.chconnect.org/. I remain available at dmilley@christian-horizons.org.

Stay safe,
