Where We Are At: Covid-19 Statistics

Thankfully, the cases of COVID-19 are reducing within Christian Horizons, more people are getting their first shot, and the recent outbreaks are over. We continue to pray for the employees who are off and recovering, and thankfully, their symptoms are mild. 

At the same time, the daily cases in Canada are slowly creeping up again, overall, so we need to continue to be super-diligent to protect ourselves, our families, and the people who use our services.  

As of yesterday, Christian Horizons has two (2) employees who are currently positive for COVID-19 in one (1) Ontario community and one (1) Saskatchewan community.

This past week, our team in Guatemala provided new school uniforms and school supplies to students in rural areas. They also provided chickens as part of our sustainable community development program. Thanks to those who donate to make these things possible. We are happy to say that things in Ethiopia have been peaceful though they have had internet disruptions. 

 Next week, on Tuesday, I’ll be attending a memorial service of Mr. E Pallister. We first met 28 years ago when I started with Christian Horizons – he and his wife helped to host the local Friendship Club in Willowdale, Ontario. They were parents to two men with developmental disabilities and participated in the closure of the institutions. Additionally, they were part of the initial group of supporters with Jim and Adrian Reese in 1960s as they started the work that we know today as Christian Horizons.   

Mr. Pallister passed away peacefully this week, not due to COVID-19, and I mention him here as a small tribute to his large impact to Christian Horizons. Because of people like him, we have the privilege to work and serve today as we help people who experience disabilities belong to communities in which their God-given gifts are valued and respected.
