Ontario and Saskatchewan

Amid the decreasing numbers of COVID-19 cases, we grieve for the ones we have lost. Late last week, we learned that one of our own employees passed away after being in the hospital for more than a month. He had taken time away from work during Christmas and contracted COVID-19, never returning. We pray for his family, the people he helped to support, and his workmates.

As of yesterday, Christian Horizons has three (3) people who use our services and three (3) employees who are currently positive for COVID-19 in four (4) Ontario communities. We have no active cases in Saskatchewan.

Haiti is experiencing political unrest again this week. Protests and uncertainty had businesses and schools closed on Monday and Tuesday. We pray for peaceful resolution in a country that has seen so much disruption. On a positive note, one of our partners in Ethiopia informed us this week that they are ready to move forward with a program to train teachers on how to include students with disabilities in their classes. It had been on hold due to the pandemic. This will be the second stage of a three-year program with the goal of providing education to over 1,500 students with disabilities for the first time.

As we wait for the mass roll-out of the vaccine, let us remember to be kind to ourselves. With the colder weather, the winter season, and the pandemic that seems to go on forever, a little kindness to ourselves or to our neighbor can go a long way.
