Last week, the first vaccine was administered to a person in the United Kingdom (UK) and this week the first person in Canada received the vaccine. While the number of COVID-19 cases are severe, the availability and roll-out of the vaccine help to revive our hope.

Within Christian Horizons, the number of COVID-19 cases are decreasing since last week, which is also encouraging. As of yesterday, Christian Horizons has one (1) person who uses our services and two (2) employees who are currently positive for COVID-19 in two (2) Ontario communities and one (1) Saskatchewan community.

Christian Horizons Global

In Guatemala, our partners Rudy and Sully are celebrating 30 years of marriage and 30 years of supporting people with disabilities with Christian Horizons Global (formerly Children’s Homes International). Haiti has had fewer protests and unrest in the past week and there is hope that it will hold. Violence continues in the North of Ethiopia. Please keep our teams in your thoughts and prayers. Christmas gifts are coming in through the online gift catalogue that will help people who use our services here in Canada and globally have a Merry Christmas and an encouraging start to 2021.

For many of us, this weekend is the beginning of the school break for the holiday season. Next week, our Christmas and holiday celebrations will look quite different than in previous years. At work, fewer people who use our services are going home to be with their families. The adjustments Janet announced last week are intended to help alleviate the extra stress of the season. Amid all that we’re facing, I pray that you’ll experience the calm and peace of the season and that your family-bubbled get-togethers will be fun and full, even if there are fewer people.

Our resources page is updated regularly and available at https://covid19.chconnect.org/. I remain available at dmilley@christian-horizons.org. As you enjoy whatever the season brings, please remember to keep a safe distance, wash your hands a lot, and wear a mask.

Stay safe,

Dwayne Milley
