After months of anticipation, we are excited to welcome each other to Karis Disability Services!

It’s been quite a journey! We believe that our new name will help build our vision of belonging and bring clarity to who we are and what we do.

By now, you might know that Karis comes from the Greek word “charis,” which can mean grace, favour, loving-kindness, and is related to the word “charisma” or gift.

You might also know that we’re choosing to use “disability services” because it clearly describes the kinds of services we provide and doesn’t shy away from using the word “disability” as an important aspect of human diversity.

What you might not know is the meaning behind the new symbol in the middle or our logo, between Karis and Disability Services.

This symbol represents our new brand name, Karis. A negative space “K” can be seen in the white spaces made by the yellow and orange shapes.

It’s also an equal symbol which emphasizes our desire to treat all people supported and staff as equal, valued, and contributing members of our communities.

And finally, the yellow and orange shapes create a horizon, a way to honour and carry with us meaningful imagery of our previous brand. Our founder, Jim Reese, has described the horizon as “a place where heaven meets earth.”
