Here is our first story of hope in the midst of the crisis in Haiti. Cayes, a seaport in southern Haiti, is known for its coffee, sugarcane, and world-renowned vetiver (a plant used in perfumery) exports. This community has faced many ongoing challenges, including the aftermaths of the 2010 earthquake and another devastating one in 2021 that brought down critical infrastructure – impacting thousands who were already facing great difficulties.
Through partnership with local churches and pastors, Karis Disability Services launched a nutrition and education program in 2021 to help meet the needs for children, especially those with disabilities, in the localities of Laurent and Devirel. What began as two small Saturday programs with 45 children has now grown to over 150. Your support helps these churches reach out in love and provide reliable and life-saving food to the next generation of Cayes, an important start towards strengthening these communities and providing inclusive and sustainable opportunities to build for the future.
We are grateful to see glimpses of hope during these uncertain times. Your generosity and support helps sustain these efforts in Cayes and our other programs in Central and North Haiti.
