As the country prepares for a day of mourning to mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, here at Christian Horizons, we acknowledge that some of you and the people you support may wish to participate in honouring the Queen’s legacy. We also acknowledge that these celebrations have caused mixed emotions for people in our community, particularly for Indigenous people, reflecting on colonization and colonial rule.
The Federal Government of Canada has designated Monday, September 19, 2022, as a National Day of Mourning. This is an opportunity for Canadians to commemorate the life and service of Her Majesty. In Ontario and Saskatchewan, the provincial governments recognizes the day of mourning without designating the day as a provincial statutory holiday. Therefore, Monday, September 19, 2022, will be a regular workday at all Christian Horizons locations.
