September 22, 2022

On Thursday, September 29, 2022, a representative from the Diversity and Inclusion group and I will be hosting two listening sessions with Indigenous employees and people who use our services for this month’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Please click here to register for one of our sessions on September 29.

Recognized on September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation honours the children who never returned home and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process. September 30 is also Orange Shirt Day. This is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family, and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters.” The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations. I look forward to connecting with you on September 29.

Sincerely,

The Diversity and Inclusion Group, and Dwayne Milley – Vice President of Operations
