Resuming Your Work with Multiple Employers

Thank you for the sacrifices you have been making to protect people who use our services and your colleagues. The efforts of all employees and people using our services have contributed to protecting each other’s lives.

With the serious outbreaks in long term care and congregate living settings and as we faced high risk of spread within our communities, employees were asked to choose one employer to work for exclusively during this time.

Today, we are announcing the start of the process for employees returning to work with multiple employers. In Ontario, the restriction on working for one employer remains in place for settings like long term care, another congregate care setting, an emergency shelter setting or a hospital. Other employment outside of these, can resume, if safety precautions are in place and being followed. It is understandable that there may be a reasonable amount of time required to adjust schedules or give notice to other employees in order to move back to working at multiple jobs. Local leaders will work through these situations with you.

If you chose to work solely for another employer or temporarily ceased working for your other employer, you received a letter acknowledging that. You will soon be contacted by your supervisor and receive a letter explaining the next steps as you may now return to working for multiple employers.

We urge everyone to continue to be fully diligent in following all safety practices here and at other employment locations. Our success has been a team effort and will continue to be.

We will continue to monitor cases of COVID-19 within Christian Horizons and take into account government recommendations. Restrictions will be adjusted appropriately should the government lift restrictions or should case numbers increase.

HRIS Steering Committee Update

A Human Resources Information System (HRIS) Steering Committee was created to explore new technology solutions to support Scheduling, Applicant Tracking, HR Data, Payroll and Information. Feedback was gathered from the Joint Employee Association and leaders about the challenges and limitations of our current software, Quadrant (QHR).

In May of 2020, the HRIS Steering Committee met again to keep this discussion going. Last week, a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) was posted to explore new software to house employee information. A project like this takes time to implement but the committee is focused and will keep you informed on our progress.

The HRIS Steering members include:

Lori Klopper, Committee Chair

John Van Dijk, Project Manager

Bill Vandyk, Database Solutions Manager

Carrie Schell, Area Manager, North District

 Employee Engagement

The Joint Employee Association has been meeting monthly to bring forward your concerns and feedback. The Joint Employee Association has raised several topics to Senior Leadership on your behalf including feedback about 12-hour shifts, cloth masks, one-employer restrictions and travel limitations.

Christian Horizons remains committed to having as many full-time positions as possible and the Joint Employee Association continues to monitor the employee classification breakdown. There are more full-time positions as of July 2020 than there have been in the past, making 48% of the workforce full-time. We will continue to review suggestions around the best ways to engage our casual Relief-Support positions. Please see the Employee Classification Trend data below:
