At Karis Disability Services, our dedication to providing high quality services while ensuring the safety of the people who use our services remains a top priority. As a part of our ongoing efforts to clarify and ensure consistent roles and responsibilities, and ensure transparency and adherence to legislative requirements, we have introduced key updates to various policies. Here are some of the key updates:

Clearer Guidance on Accident Penalties (ON & SK) B.12.13.4 & B.9.16.4

This year, both Ontario and Saskatchewan received updates to their accident penalty sections to ensure our approach is fair, consistent, and easy to understand. Both the Ontario & Saskatchewan policy now provides clearer direction on how at-fault accidents are assessed and how corrective action should be applied.

The revisions outline:

  • What constitutes an “at-fault” determination,
  • How corrective action progresses if additional at-fault accidents occur, and
  • How decisions should be applied consistently across programs.

This helps ensure employees have a transparent understanding of expectations whenever they operate an agency vehicle.

To support consistency across our organization, Saskatchewan’s accident penalty section has been updated to mirror the clarity added in the Ontario version. This ensures both provinces follow the same standards for determining fault and applying corrective action.

Strengthened Ethical Standards in Purchasing (ON & SK) D.4.3 D.4.4.6.2 D.4.4.7

Several updates were also made to our purchasing policies, with a focus on ethics, transparency, and aligning our practices across provinces. In both D.4.3 – Purchasing Ethical Guidelines and D.4.4.7 – Other Requirements for All Purchases, we’ve strengthened expectations around declaring and avoiding conflicts of interest.

These revisions reinforce that:

  • Employees involved in purchasing must not influence decisions where a conflict exists,
  • Personal benefit or preferential treatment is not permitted, and
  • Transparency must guide all procurement-related actions.

These updates help protect the integrity of our purchasing processes and ensure public funds are used responsibly.
