On Saturday last week, a storm ripped through Ontario and Quebec. The professionals call it a ‘derecho’, a powerful windstorm that ‘is long-lasting and far-reaching’. Within Christian Horizons, the east end of Ontario got the worst of it. Within Christian Horizons, no one was hurt physically, and our property damage was minimal compared to others in that area. However, as of this morning, five support locations in Ottawa and three in Peterborough are still without power.

I’ve been receiving updates about how staff and people who use our services are pitching in to help each other, setting up and maintaining generators, delivering food, doing laundry, and so much more as they continue to recover from the storm. You may have seen a picture in the news of an intersection with power lines down – that’s the hardest-hit area, and one support location and the East District Office are in that neighbourhood! “One day at a time” is their approach these days.

We continue to pray for the employee who has been hospitalized due to COVID-19. Here are this week’s statistics.

Christian Horizons Global Update

Unfortunately, this week we learned of the death of a young mother, Adnel, in Nicaragua due to COVID 19. Adnel’s passing is a sad reminder of the still ongoing pandemic worldwide. Her son, Hanner, attends a preschool provided by our partners in Nicaragua and funded by us. We will keep Adnel’s family in our prayers and support them as they grieve.

Be safe!
