I am so excited to let you know about an exciting new development in our friendship with The Raw Carrot. There’s an article about them here at our Disability and Faith Blog, and you can find their website here. The Raw Carrot’s vision is for people in all communities in Canada to be meaningfully employed and able to meet their basic needs.
Karis and The Raw Carrot have been collaborating for some time – I host a bi-monthly connection with them and some of our internal leaders for us to explore how we can help each other carry out our mandates together. Their target employee is someone who experiences barriers to traditional employment, which includes people with disabilities. Their target method is partnering with a local church. We have a lot in common and can work together very well!
Before I tell you about the new development, let me tell you why I’m telling you. Perhaps you have never heard about The Raw Carrot, and perhaps once you’ve learned about them here, you might decide to share this information with your local community group or church.
Now, about the new development – it might seem small, but it is a thrilling start. As of last week, we are now selling The Raw Carrot soup and other products at the Peppler Office in Waterloo. In the Kitchener-Waterloo area, The Raw Carrot has a three-way partnership – them, the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), and Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church. Soup from Stirling Ave is what we’re selling, and more soup sales mean more employment for people with disabilities. At this point it’s only for sale for Karis employees and guests. We’re not a public-facing store.
Please check out their website. And please consider buying some soup next time you come by the office! Communities are better when everybody belongs, and The Raw Carrot is helping that happen!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
