The Canada Disability Benefit is now law!

After many letters to Members of Parliament and the Senate, and years of advocacy from Our Voices Matter, our leadership teams, and other organizations, Bill C-22, passed through Parliament and received royal assent. Bill C-22 is an act to reduce poverty and support the financial security of persons with a disability by providing a federal income supplement.

This Bill, which could be implemented as early as December 2024, will be a “game-changer” to Canadians with disabilities, enhancing their quality of life and helping millions of people have more choice and greater inclusion.

“No person with a disability in this country should live in poverty,” said Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion of Canada. Minister Qualtrough was instrumental in creating and passing this Bill through Parliament.

Christian Horizons, Our Voices Matter, and other advocacy groups will be providing input to our Federal government on how we can work together to roll out this benefit and make a difference. You can read more about the Bill and its next steps at CBC, CTV, and The Globe and Mail.
