Updated March 16, 2023

We are making amazing progress through our Onward strategic plan! Together, we’re shifting thinking and transforming service approaches so people can better direct their own services. Thank you for all your creative ideas and dedicated efforts that have empowered people to have more choices and control over their lives and services, and have engaged and equipped people, families, employees, and communities in new ways.

With all this amazing work happening in communities and on project teams, we need a way to keep everyone in the know.

  • How have the people you support reached new goals through the use of Passport funds or made new decisions about their services and supports during an Independently facilitated personal plan?
  • What improvements are project teams working on that will help transform how we provide services? What opportunities for employee learning and equipping are on their way?

To keep everyone informed of our progress and the impact it’s making, we are launching “Onward stories as Reels– short videos that capture our progress and impact.

These videos can be created by anyone—any team, any employee, or any person using our services. The goal of these videos is to share an update, story, or progress that tells us what great work is on the way or what difference recent changes have made in people’s lives and our services.

Read below to learn the first area of focus we are looking for videos on and how you can film and submit your video.

First area of focus:

Self-directed services mean choosing how you want to live and what services you will use to live your life. When we sought input on our Onward plans, we heard very clearly that people want to choose where they live and who they live with. We also heard that they want to make more choices, like where they work or how they spend their time. They also told us that they are interested in learning how technology can help them do more things on their own and that they would like to provide more input to the organization. All these things have to do with directing your own services. So, we’ve used people’s ideas to create some really great activities to help do this, and we would love to hear how it’s going. We want to hear from both project teams on how this work is progressing and updates from teams and people in communities to tell us the impact it is having.

Here are some fun questions to get you thinking about what video you might create.

Video Ideas and suggestions: How have you been directing your life recently or supported people to direct their lives and services?

  • Have you made a move to a new place? Tell us about it.
  • Have you had an independently facilitated plan? Tell us how it went.
  • Have you used your Passport funding to achieve a goal (applies to Ontario)?
  • How have you directed the way your staff supports you?
  • How has technology helped you to direct your life?
  • Or something else about self-direction you want to share
