The Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) social assistance rates have increased this year by 5%. The new rates, effective September 1, 2022, are:
The residential maintenance, room, board, and shelter allowance have all been increased by 5%. However, the 5% increase was not applied to the Personal Needs Allowance, and remains at $149 per month. Please note, the Ontario government determines these rates and provides the details to us for changes through the Ontario Disability Support Program Act; Christian Horizons does not set these rates.
Residential maintenance is the monthly amount you pay to Christian Horizons from your ODSP income. If you pay your residential maintenance by cheques, please use the new rates for the September Resident Month End Report, due October 5, 2022.
If you pay your residential maintenance automatically through your bank, new Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) confirmations are being prepared and will be sent out to you prior to the first withdrawal at the new rate, which will take place on October 5, 2022.
If you pay your residential maintenance as a “landlord deduction”, this payment appears as a deduction on the monthly payment advice (or statement of assistance) from the ODSP office. Landlord payments are not automatically updated to the new residential maintenance amount by the ODSP office. If this applies to you, please contact your local ODSP representative and change the “landlord” payment to the new residential maintenance rate (as above) prior to September 15th. The ODSP office needs to be contacted before September 15th to have the appropriate payment amount changed for October. Note that, due to confidentiality issues, the Finance department is unable to request these changes.
