The birds are chirping outside my window as I type this. On Sunday I spied a bird’s nest, with a mother protecting and nurturing her young. The sounds of spring are sounds of new life, of hope.

The increase in community uptake of the vaccines is hopeful. As one employee shared with me, they’re looking forward to the freedom to gather, to hug, to wander stores, to attend concerts, to attend community events, and to wear lip gloss! :)

As we hope, we also grieve. This week a person who used the services of Christian Horizons in Sudbury succumbed to COVID-19 and passed away. We mourn for her and pray for her family and friends

As of yesterday, Christian Horizons has thirteen (13) employees who are currently positive for COVID-19 in six (6) Ontario communities and one (1) Saskatchewan community.

In Guatemala, the number of COVID-19 cases are still high in some areas this week. Thankfully, there are no cases in the remote community of El Zapitillo, and so our team was able to travel there to safely offer training and supplies. Things in Haiti continue to be a challenge. A rash of violent crime in the country has everyone on edge. Our partners are fine, but it is hard on everyone. Please keep them in your thoughts.

Thank you to those who have contacted me about what they’re looking forward to on the other side of the pandemic. Please continue to let me know! For me, I’m hoping we can host a small birthday party for my daughter in the summer – it’s far enough away to think it’s possible, but not so far that I can be certain =).

Stay Safe!
