November 28, 2024
Tuesday, December 3 is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD)! This year’s theme, created by the United Nations, is “amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for a more inclusive and sustainable future.”
Our organization will be celebrating in a few ways:
- In-person celebrations: some districts will be hosting people supported and employees at dedicated celebrations featuring guest speakers, activities, and refreshments.
- On social media: if you missed registration for in-person IDPD events, you can still support the celebrations on district social media pages. District pages will be posting about their IDPD events and will be celebrating people who use our services with short posts. Karis’s main social media pages will be sharing a few posts throughout the day that districts are encouraged to repost and share.
- On the website: to celebrate the theme “amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for a more inclusive and sustainable future,” we will be posting a few stories on our website highlighting self-advocates and members of Our Voices Matter groups.
IDPD is an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the contributions and participation of people with disabilities. It’s also a chance to highlight how we can all work to make communities more welcoming and accessible. This day has been recognized around the world since 1992.
